Yesterday we reached over 15,000 cases of Corona here in NYC. We’re now the epicenter of the virus. Why wouldn’t we be? It’s certainly nothing to be proud of. Long term NYC dwellers and survivors sometimes find unity looking at all the things we’ve gone through as a group. Tragically that always leads us back to 9/11.
I was at my day job at Tower Records running the shipping and receiving department at Lincoln Center when my boss came in and told me a plane crashed into one of the twin towers. We both thought it had to be an accident. A few weeks later I rode my bike down to ground zero late at night. It felt like I was looking at a tear in the universe. There was a hole ripped open that I couldn’t see but could feel. There was an overwhelming feeling that death had visited this place.
Fellow New Yorker’s will reel off other times when we got served, on a far lesser scale of course, but still enough for a memory. The transit strike, and the Blackout both come to mind. When I look around at NYC on virtual lock right now from Corona, I’m forced to see the biggest difference:
The Corona pandemic is not just NYC, it’s the entire world.
What absolutely kills me is when 45 takes credit for saving thousands and thousands of lives. The very idea that he believes he has .1% of spiritual power on this level has me baffled to no end. Seeing him with his eyes closed pretending to pray is quite a sight. The so called leader of the free world asleep at the wheel. The idea that anyone thinks they have the power to stop death may be one of the reasons Corona has come, almost like it was delivered from the first horseman of the apocalypse.
In stark contrast to 45 is Governor Andrew Cuomo delivering a press conference with a big screen next to him that says:
Let’s teach them the right lessons
Let our better Angels guide us
Politicians keep talking about getting us back to normal though. Chump’s trying to use Easter to launch his I won vs. Corona virus America is back in business sale. He is so desperate to stay asleep at the wheel. What he doesn’t understand is that there is no going back to the way it was before. Normal was wrong on the deepest levels. Normal, is not working anymore. I hope, I pray that we can find a way to be honest with ourselves. We are witnessing an urgent restructuring of the world. The Corona virus has already changed life on Earth forever.
Every human being on Earth is being forced to spend some kind of time with or denial of their spiritual existence. When I meditate on what’s happening, what I receive is that the human race can no longer continue as it was before this began. The End Times that I thought were coming in 2012 are happening now. What I don’t see are the people with the World will end signs. Where did they go? Once when I was busking in the subway playing trumpet, one of them followed me around until I had to tell him to go away.
“Hey! You have your message and I have mine so fallback!”
I think what’s happening right now is a last but necessary resort to return the human race to their true nature. There was a time when our spiritual existence was our primary focus, reality, and directive. Ancient civilizations dedicated their entire lives to their spiritual existence. Either we’re being redirected, or George Carlin was right. The Earth has had enough of us. As Carlin said, the Earth may just shake us off it’s back like an unwanted flea.
If anything, this is the biggest STOP sign of all time.
What’s going to happen to music? Many of us are keeping it going through digital media. I don’t think gigs and tour life are going to come back the way everything was before this. I feel like there’s going to be less of everything. I think some musicians are encountering the solo version of themselves, which can be an entire journey all by itself. Many of us may be forced into deeper alternate levels of hustle to survive.
Musicians and Artists of the world, we’re here now
It’s on us to survive and keep creating
No matter what
Just an attempt to collect my thoughts and feelings during self-isolation here. Peace FB Street. Health and safety to all!
